Pa shoots ‘mentally-ill’ son to death in Negros

BACOLOD CITY – An alleged mentally-ill man died after he was shot by his father outside their house at Barangay Pandanon Silos, Murcia, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, September 1.

Police withheld the name of the 41-year-old victim.

Police Capt. Jerald Muya, Murcia town police chief, said the victim went to his family’s house, reportedly armed with a bolo and went berserk.

Muya said his 63-year-old father tried to pacify him but he continued to be aggressive and even allegedly attempted to hit his father with a bolo, but luckily the latter was able to avoid the attack.

His father then allegedly shot him in the head, that caused his son’s immediate death.

Muya said it was his father’s defense to prevent his son from causing more harm. However, his son died of head injuries.

Muya said the victim was supposedly scheduled to be transferred to a mental hospital in October this year.

His family has provided him a separate house as he would usually act unruly, Muya said, adding that police had responded to some reports complaining him for alarm and scandal in the area.

But, that night, he became more violent as he brought a weapon with him, Muya said.

Muya said the father surrendered to the police, along with the .357 caliber he used.

Muya said they are waiting for the decision of the family on the filing of case.
