In an interview with CNN Philippines, Dr. Rontgene Solante, head of the Adult Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine unit of the San Lazaro Hospital, noted that the number of severe and critical cases is higher now compared to the previous surge last March and April.

"This current surge we have almost 80 to 90 percent of our admissions are really severe and critical. I think this is something to do with how the virus can really multiply in our body and cause more symptoms," Solante noted.

"Majority of those currently admitted and developing severe symptoms are really the unvaccinated population," he added.

Solante also observed most of those admitted to San Lazaro Hospital due to COVID-19 are below 50 years old.
