Denmark, PH kick off 75th year of diplomatic relations with video presentations

In celebration of this year’s 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Denmark and the Philippines, the embassies of the two countries will kick off with month-long video presentations through their respective social media platforms embodying the theme, “Partners in Progress for Sustainable Growth”.

The Royal Danish Embassy in Manila said the theme for the celebration underscores the commitment towards sustainable development, which serves as one of the primary anchors of the two countries' bilateral relations.

The theme's thrust is artistically captured in the 75th-year logo designed by the highly awarded Jacob Jensen Design (JJD), which presents windmills with wind blades emulating the shapes of two national flowers - Sampaguita for the Philippines and Daisy for Denmark.

Danish Ambassador to the Philippines Grete Sillasen noted that the milestone celebration of the Denmark-Philippine relations is happening in a rapidly changing world amid the backdrop of the global health crisis.

So much the more is there reason to both cherish our long-standing friendship and to continue to develop our partnership for just and sustainable development. Please join us for a month of virtual celebrations,” the Danish top diplomat in Manila said.

Relations between Denmark and the Philippines were formally established on September 28, 1946 and have continued to deepen across multiple fronts from the friendship and collaboration between the two countries.

Throughout September, the short videos to be presented will feature companies and personalities across political, economic, and cultural sectors that each in their own way represents the strong bilateral relations between Denmark and the Philippines.

Philippine Ambassador to Copenhagen Leo Herrera-Lim recalled the time when the diplomatic relations between the two countries shortly after rebuilding was just starting following the destructions left by World War II

"When the Philippines established diplomatic relations with Denmark, we were starting to rebuild from the destructive impact of the last World War. Today, as we face a different global challenge, we share with the Danish people our commitment to sustainable development, fair and free trade, and the ideals of democracy. Anchored on strong foundations, we look forward to even stronger and deeper ties between our countries and our people," Herrera-Lim said.
