The LGU (local government unit) said that it has vaccinated a total of 1,200 residents of Rizal at the Marikina Sports Complex as part of the “We Vax as One” program which aims to vaccinate residents from other areas to hasten the vaccination against COVID-19.

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro said that since the city has already achieved herd immunity last week after fully vaccinating over 350,000 residents, the city is now ready to vaccinate those from other cities and municipalities near Marikina.

"Nag-offer na tayo nung ating mga vaccination site. Nag-offer na din tayo dahil meron na din tayong sobrang bilang ng mga vaccinators. Mga doktor para makatulong sa mga katabing bayan (We have already offered our vaccination site. We have also offered (to vaccinate) more people because we have more than enough vaccinators and doctors to help nearby cities and municipalities)," Teodoro said.

He added that a central data registry is needed to ensure the smooth and efficient vaccination of non-residents from other cities.

"Dapat manggaling sa isang central data registry lamang para walang pag uulit-ulit sa pagbabakuna. Pangalawa, para sa ganon, merong bilang o quota na ibibigay sa bawat NCR city na tutulong sa programa "We Vax as One para sa kaayusan (A central data registry is needed to ensure that there will be no repeated vaccination. Secondly, to have a quota to be given to each NCR (National Capital Region) city that will help in the "We Vax as One" program)," he added.

He assured that the city government is closely monitoring the vaccine recipients to ensure that they will receive the required doses of the vaccines. It has also allotted schedules for vaccination for Rizal residents to maximize the capacity of its vaccination centers.

Aside from Marikina, other cities in Metro Manila who have achieved herd immunity or population protection such as San Juan and Mandaluyong, will also start to inoculate residents from other areas as part of the program.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said that the city of San Juan is just waiting for the centralized database from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to determine the people who have already been vaccinated in other cities or provinces.

“Ang sabi naman po ni Chairman Abalos at ng DICT ay by first week of September matatapos na po ang centralized database. Once that happens, ay puwede na naming i-verify agad kung bakunado na o hindi pa ang nagparehistro mula sa ibang lugar. Ito po ay added precaution at verification mechanisms natin (Chairman Abalos and the DICT said that the centralized database will be finished by the first week of September. Once that happens, we may now verify immediately if the people who registered are already vaccinated in other places. This is an added precaution and verification mechanism),” Zamora said.
