Mindanao Art Fair 2021 to spotlight southern creativity in liminal space

The third installment of Mindanao Art Fair will happen this coming October

Mindanawon art and culture is alive and thriving even during this pandemic time. A testament to that is the upcoming Mindanao Art Fair 2021, which is now on its third year.

This time around, the fair will revolve around the theme, "Art in Between: Mindanao Art in Liminal Space." Art enthusiasts are given a glimpse of what to expect at this year's celebration through a video released last Aug. 24, 2021, featuring artworks by established and emerging Mindanawon and Mindanao-conscious artists.

"We look to work with artists with thoughtful takes on liminality and on art in the current Mindanao milieu," the fair posted. "With the changing art landscape due to many global and local factors, this year's Mindanao Art Fair supports artists who experiment with new ideas and who explore the concept of in-between-ness."

Last July, the fair called for submission of art pieces in line with the theme to be presented at the event. The deadline for registration is on Aug. 31, 2021, while the submission of photos of proposed exhibit works is on Sept. 17, 2021. All entries will be screened by the Mindanao Art Fair Curatorial Team.

Established in 2019, the NCCA-funded Mindanao Art Fair has been a selling exhibition place for contemporary art in Mindanao. At the core of its mission is the upliftment of the region's artists and galleries that highlights Mindanao culture.
