According to the report, the victims had just disembarked from the tricycle when a car hit them in front of the Catbalogan Police Headquarters. The car also hit the tricycle, it added.

“Pauwi na sila ng barangay nila, eh na-timing, bumangga (They were on their way home to their barangay, when they were hit),” Police Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Sumpo Jr. said in a report from GMA’s 24 Oras on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

“Mga bugbog na part doon sa may bandang paa. ‘Yung anak siyempre may mga gasgas silang dalawa. ‘Yung anak parang may bukol pero na CT scan naman sila, okay naman so far ‘yung result (They have bruised parts on the side of their foot. They also both have scratches. The child looks like he has a lump but they had a CT scan, the result is okay so far),” Sumpo added.

The report said the driver admitted that he fell asleep while driving before the incident occurred.

“Kasi galing silang Manila papuntang Cotabato. Siguro kulang ‘yung tulog niya o hindi pa nakatulog. Inamin niya na naka idlip ata (Because they came from Manila to Cotabato. Maybe he's not getting enough sleep or hasn't slept yet. He admitted that he had fallen asleep),” Sumpo said.

The victims were immediately taken to the hospital. The baby remained confined for monitoring, while the mother was discharged on Tuesday.

The driver committed to pay for the victims’ hospital bills and to the damaged tricycle.
