On account of her death, the Sandiganbayan dismissed the graft and malversation charges filed in 2015 against former municipal accountant Maria B. Remudaro of Amulung, Cagayan.

The late Remudaro was the co-accused of then Amulung Mayor Nicanor de Leon in the alleged illegal disbursement of P18.7 million of funds from 2000 to 2009.

Also charged in the cases were former Mayor Pacita de Leon and then municipal treasurer Luzviminda Macasio.

During the hearing of the cases, the anti-graft court directed the prosecution to confirm the reported death of Remudaro.

The prosecution presented Remudaro’s death certificate with Registry No. Registry No. 2020-2906 issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

“In view of her death, SB-15-CRM-0068 to 0071 are hereby dismissed as to accused Remudaro. Let the warrant of arrest and the hold departure order issued against her by reason of these cases be lifted and her cash bond be released to her heirs, subject to the usual accounting and auditing procedure,” the Sandiganbayan ruled.

The resolution was signed by sixth division Chairperson Sarah Jane T. Fernandez with the concurrence of Associate Justices Karl B. Miranda and Kevin Narce B. Vivero.
