Mayor Emi urges TUPAD beneficiaries to make good use of aid


Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano urged the more than 1,000 beneficiaries of Tulong Panghanabuhay sa Ating Disadvantage/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) to make good use of the benefits they received from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the city government.

In her speech via Zoom, Rubiano advised the 50 individuals who were given bicycles to take good care of the bikes and use them to earn their livelihoods for their families.

Rubiano said each TUPAD beneficiary will receive P5,370 in exchange for doing community work as street cleaners for 10 days while 50 of them will each receive a bicycle worth P11,000.

She said TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed, unemployed poor for a minimum period of 10 days but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

The mayor also vowed to find more ways on how she can help her constituents by linking up with other civic groups and government offices that could open up opportunities for t them.

Rubiano said it was the second time that the DOLE has brought its TUPAD program in the city to help the displaced workers.

“Nagpapasalamt po ako kay Labor Sec. Bello dahil ikalawang beses na niyang dinala ang DOLE-TUPAD program dito sa atin, at unang beses ay noong November 2020 kung saan ay nabigyan din ng dagliang tulong ang ating mga manggagawang nawalan ng trabaho (I am very thankful to Labor Secretary Bello because this is the second time that DOLE-TUPAD program was brought in our city, first was on November 2020, and our workers who lost their jobs were immediately given help),” Rubiano noted.

Rubiano said the city government has been working overtime to provide assistance to the people not only by ensuring their health and safety against the pandemic but also to give them jobs and income opportunities.
