Baker punched by alleged NBI man backs out of case

CEBU CITY – The baker who was assaulted by a man who allegedly posed as an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is no longer pressing charges.

Marvin Lobitana revealed that the two women and two men whom he got into an altercation in a road rage that has gone viral on social has reached out to him and offered an amicable settlement.

Lobitana has already executed an affidavit of desistance.

Lobitana admitted meeting the persons who assaulted him but did not identify them.

Lobitana had sought the help of the NBI Central Visayas after he was attacked by two men on Sunday afternoon in Mandaue City.

In the video footage that has been circulating online, a biker was seen slapping Lobitana. Another bike was also seen punching the baker in the face.

The identities of the two men remained unknown even after the baker had met them during the settlement at the office of a group, which is seeking a partylist seat in the Congress in the coming elections.

The altercation happened when the baker, who at the time was driving a delivery tricycle with his co-worker as his backrider, was accused of hitting the two bikers’ female companion.

Lobitana denied hitting the female biker but admitted that the tricycle was defective that caused it to swerve unintentionally.

In an interview with a local radio station, Lobitana said the female biker showed some bruises in her legs when she crashed to the pavement after nearly getting hit by the tricycle.

The injuries sustained by the biker was the reason why he decided to settle the matter amicably, Lobitana claimed.

The NBI 7, on the other hand, said no case will prosper after the baker agreed to a settlement with the four bikers.

In the radio interview, Lobitana admitted hearing his attacker introducing himself as an NBI agent when he instructed an onlooker to delete the footage of the incident.

“I-erase na kay NBI ko (Erase that. I am an NBI agent),” Lobitana quoted his attacker as saying.
