"Bukal"(international title: "Wellspring"), the directorial film debut of Jeffrey Smith "Epy" Quizon, received three more international awards last Aug. 23.

For the month of July, in the Cannes World Film Festival, the Philippine entry of Epy won Best Director (Short Film), Best Foreign Film, and Best Ensemble Cast awards.

In a phone interview, Epy said he was happy and proud to share the wonderful news about his short film that won three awards out of five nominations.

"To God be the glory! Inaalay ko ang pelikula naming ito kay God.

"Kahit ano pang tawag natin sa kanya, like Allah sa ating mga kababayang Muslims.

"Iisa lang ang ating Diyos. And that's the reason why we made this film," says the son of Comedy King Dolphy.

The Cannes World Film Festival - held annually in Cannes, France - was established a few years ago. This should not be confused with the seasoned Cannes Film Festival.

In Cannes World Film Festival, there is a monthly set of winners from January. All the winners will be conferred with their trophies come the annual event in 2022.

Earlier in August, Epy also won several awards for the same film at the Indie Short Fest in Lost Angeles, California, including Best Producer and Outstanding Achievement Award for a First-Time Director.

A movie that tackles peace in Mindanao, "Bukal" also stars Archie Alemania, Alvin Anson, Ronnie Quizon, Christian Vazquez, Rez Cortez, Vance Larena, Leon Miguel, Bomni Plata, and more.
