Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Spokesperson Celine Pialago had some one-on-one time with Senator Manny Pacquiao before the latter’s welterweight bout with World Boxing Association (WBA) “super” champion Yordenis Ugas at past noon Sunday, Aug. 22.

Pialago posted a screenshot of her video call with Pacquiao on her Facebook wall. By the looks on their faces, the two appeared to be good friends.

Despite the positive vibes, the MMDA official felt the need to clarify that her post had no political color whatsoever.

“Labas muna isyung pulitikal usaping boksing muna (Leaving out political issues for the meantime, its time for boxing talk),” Pialago wrote. She wish her “idol” luck in his fight to end the post.

Down in the comments section, Pialago was seen telling off netizens who were being “negative” about her post on Pacquiao.

“Boxing ang topic ng post ko bakit ang daming negatibong tao. Huwag niyo muna haluan ng pulitika, haluan niyo pagkatapos ng laban. Huwag ngayon (My post’s topic was about boxing, why are there so many negative people. Don’t bring politics into this, do that after the fight. Not now),” she wrote.

Unfortunately, Pacquiao, 42, lost via unanimous decision against the Cuban pugilist in a competitive fight.

It might have been the Filipino boxing hero’s last professional bout too, especially since he is being rumored to run for president in the May 2022 national polls.

It’s Pacquiao’s alleged political ambition that has led to his recent falling out with President Duterte, a fellow Mindanaoan.

Pialago was appointed to her current position as MMDA assistant secretary by Duterte in August 2018. She also serves as National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) spokesperson on public affairs and youth concerns.
