CEBU CITY — The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) will extend financial assistance to the families of policemen who died due to COVID-19.

Police Brig. Ronnie Montejo, chief of PRO 7, announced that each family of the deceased policemen would get up to P100,000.

Montejo said the order to provide cash aid to affected families came from Camp Crame.

Eight PRO 7 personnel have died due to COVID-19. The four fatalities were from July and August.

The latest casualty was Lt. Col. Marlu Conag, former chief of the Talisay City Police Station.

Despite the enforcing strict measures against COVID, more and more policemen are contracting the virus, Montejo said

As of August, the PRO 7 has 163 active COVID-19 cases.

Montejo said the Regional Health Service Unit has been tasked to strictly monitor the infected personnel.
