The Muntinlupa City government has placed five more areas under lockdown due to the increasing number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi imposed a 14-day Extreme Localized Community Quarantine (ELCQ) in the five areas in Katarungan Village, a housing project of the Department of Justice in Brgy. Poblacion: Angelo Street, Horrileno Street, Endencia Street, Paredes Street and Barrera Street. The five streets will be under ELCQ from noon of Aug. 19 to noon of Sept. 2.

Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO) chief Dr. Juancho Bunyi said an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases was observed in the five streets and minimum public health protocols such as wearing of face mask and face shield outside of residence were not being observed.

Bunyi noted that the areas have high risk groups such as senior citizens, children under 5 years old, and pregnant women.

The attack rate in the village areas climbed to 208.58 per 10,000 population from the previous week's record of 73.61 per 10,000 population while the doubling time is at four days. As of Aug. 17, there are 17 active cases in these areas.

Total lockdown protocols will be implemented in the community and residents will be prohibited from going out of their homes except for emergency cases. Residents who are outside of the area starting the duration of the lockdown due to work will be permitted to return to their households but will be restricted from going out again.

Barangay Poblacion announced that an additional vaccination site will be established in Katarungan Village on Aug. 20 due to the alarming rise of COVID-19 cases in the area. The vaccination site will be at the village’s JRF covered court phase 2.

Residents of Katarungan Village are advised to wait for further notice and text from the barangay for their vaccination schedule. Walk-ins will not be accommodated and only those who received a notification will be inoculated.

The CHO will hold a mass testing and contact tracing in the areas and the City Social Service Department and barangay will provide food packs and other basic items for the affected residents during the effectivity of the ELCQ. The Muntinlupa police will secure the communities.

Katarungan Village is the sixth community to be placed under localized lockdown since the enhanced community quarantine started on Aug. 6. Other areas under ELCQ are Purok 3, Molera Compound in Barangay Sucat and Purok 7, Beatriz Compound, De Mesa L & B Street in Barangay Alabang from Aug. 6 to 27; Block 8, Hills View and Mangga Street, Lakeview Homes in Barangay Putatan from Aug. 12 to 26; and Chico Street, Laguerta in Barangay Tunasan from Aug. 10 to 25.
