ILOILO CITY – Former health secretary and Iloilo 1st District Rep. Janette Loreto-Garin has been infected with COVID-19.

“Despite following the minimum health protocols and being extra cautious, I tested positive for COVID-19,” Garin said in a statement.

“It is fortunate that I am fully vaccinated. I can sleep soundly with the hope that this will not be severe despite my pre-existing conditions,” Garin said.

As advised by her doctor, the congresswoman who represents southern Iloilo province is currently on home quarantine as she only exhibited mild symptoms.

Garin has runny nose, cough, fever and chills. She said that she still has her sense of taste.

Garin also admitted she has pre-existing medical conditions.

“I am asthmatic, hypertensive, and living with Raynauds Disease,” Garin pointed out.

Garin, who is a medical doctor by profession, also said she has tachycardia or has a fast heartbeat rate.

“But I am confident that a trip to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) will not be part of my COVID-19 experience,” Garin added.

The congresswoman pointed out that as a public servant, she is exposed to many people during meetings and other activities.
