Fire razes Rizal public market


A fire of still unknown origin gutted the public market in Teresa, Rizal on Wednesday night, August 11.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-Teresa (BFP-Teresa) told the Manila Bulletin that the blaze started around 8:20 p.m. and had reached the third alarm around 11 p.m.

Firefighters from Antipolo City and nearby municipalities in Rizal Province rushed to the fire scene at the Pamilihang Bayan ng Teresa (Teresa Public Market) located at M.L. Quezon Street, in Barangay San Gabriel.

The fire was declared under control shortly after 11 p.m. according to the BFP-Teresa.

As per the Initial assessment by firefighters of BFP Teresa, almost all the stalls in the public market were damaged by the blaze which was still on going as of 12:40 a.m.

FO1 John Kenneth Dalumpines of the BFP Teresa told the Manila Bulletin that the office of BFP-Teresa Fire Marshall, Senior Fire Officer 3 Anne Bastian has not received a report of any casualty or injury related to the fire incident.

Fire trucks from Antipolo City, Cainta, Taytay and nearby municipalities and volunteer fire fighters from as far as Pasig City also responded to the fire scene.

Fire fighters said several stall owners rushed to the public market upon learning of the incident and others tried to open the roll-up door of their stalls just to save their merchandise but authorities managed to stop them.
