4 nabbed in Mountain Province for transporting P2.6-M worth of marijuana


BAGUIO CITY – Four persons from Ilocos Sur were arrested Wednesday after they were found in possession of marijuana worth P2.6 million in a checkpoint in Bauko, Mountain Province.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Cordillera Regional Director Gil Castro identified the suspects as Christian Allen Vergara Habab, Aljon James Ambasing Bangayan, Mark Jamandre, and John Randolf Torres Cadavez.

He said the suspects were intercepted in a checkpoint by personnel of the PDEA and Mountain Province Provincial Police Office in Sitio Dawaic, Otucan Norte, Bauko.

Castro said he received information that two motorcycles will pass thru Mountain Province going to Ilocos Sur via the Bessang Pass with the riders in possession of marijuana bricks.

The motorcycles passed the checkpoint around 11:20 p.m. Aug. 11.

Seized from the suspects were 18 bricks of dried marijuana leaves and nine pieces of tubular dried marijuana with a total weight of 21,697 kilograms worth P2,603,640.

The suspects will face charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act specifically on illegal transport of prohibited drugs.
