2 cops face dismissal over murder, illegal drugs

Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered on Thursday, Aug. 12, the Internal Affairs Service to expedite the conduct of summary dismissal proceedings against two policemen who were arrested for involvement in assassination of a businessman in Manila and for allegedly being a supplier of illegal drugs in Mandaluyong.

Eleazar was referring to Police Senior Master Sgt. Bernardo Oriol Jr, of the Manila Police District and Staff Sgt. Manuel Bien, of the Police Security Protection Group.

Oriol Jr was tagged as a suspect in the August 2 murder of businessman Naiquian Yuan who was ambushed by motorcycle-riding perpetrators in Malate, Manila. He was arrested along with his alleged cohort Shi Shanbang last August 6 in Binondo.

Bien, on the other hand, was identified as the alleged source of illegal drugs by suspect Alfie Gomez. Both men were nabbed in an August 9 police anti-narcotics operation.

"The PNP has no room for these kinds of policemen. I assure the public that we will continuously purge our ranks with policemen who do not deserve to be in the police service," said Eleazar.

Aside from administrative charges that could pave the way for their dismissal, the two cops are also facing criminal charges.
