The number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases surpassed the 12,000-mark for the first time in months.

As such, hospitals in Metro Manila are starting to feel the pinch, with many hitting full occupancy, as a surge, said to be fueled by its Delta variant, continued its rampage.

Meanwhile, the tussle between President Duterte and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso worsened with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) taking over distribution chores of Manila’s “ayuda”, an assertion that the mayor’s camp quickly debunked.

These are among the top stories this Wednesday afternoon, August 11, 2021.
