The first alarm was at 7:30 p.m. Firetrucks have responded to the scene.

Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano told DZBB that the fire hit a construction site in BGC. He said based on reports, a drilling operation hit a gas pipe, which triggered the fire.

“It was not a gas leak or gas explosion. Something triggered (the fire). When a safety officer went near the area, that was when the explosion occurred,” he said.

Cayetano said one person was hurt and he was brought to the hospital for treatment. DZBB identified the victim as Melchor Dela Cruz Macalandia.

“We want to make sure the area is safe but it seems that it is already okay. It seems safe,” the mayor said.

Cayetano said there is no need to evacuate people around the fire area as it is far from residential buildings.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region said the fire was put out at 9:35 p.m.
