65 Central Visayas cops test positive for COVID-19

CEBU CITY – At least 65 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7).

With the release of swab test results last Tuesday, August 10, Police Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, chief of PRO 7, said the number of police currently recuperating from the disease reached 104.

Most of the infected policemen are at the Regional Training Center.

“There are 40 policemen at the training center who tested positive for COVID-19. They have been isolated and will be confined in the training center for 15 days,” Montejo said.

Most of the infected policemen are asymptomatic and are being closely monitored by the Regional Health Service Unit, Montejo said.

Montejo said it helped that some infected personnel are already vaccinated that prevented them from experiencing severe symptoms.

Over at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), 80 percent of its personnel are already vaccinated against COVID-19.

Police Col. Josefino Ligan, chief of CCPO, said it was a welcome development that majority of the policemen in the city expressed willingness to take the vaccine.

“We have policemen who are fully vaccinated already and some have already received their first dose,” Ligan said.

The 1,200-strong CCPO only has two active COVID-19 cases, Ligan said.
