MATAG-OB, LEYTE – Hundreds of supporters of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte flocked the streets from Ormoc City to Matag-ob, Leyte to call on the presidential daughter to run for the 2022 presidential elections Sunday (August 9).
People from Matag-ob and other towns in Leyte brought banners and wear green shirts with “Run Sara Run” and “Sara for All” slogans. Some residents have also posted tarpaulins of Mayor Sara outside their homes in support of the call.
The group is one of the first to have launched the movement in Eastern
Visayas.Businessman Bernardino Tacoy who led the group in Matag-ob town, said they believe that Sara needs to run to continue the good things that her father, President Rodrigo Duterte has done for the country.
“Many good things are happening that need to be kept going…We believe in the kind of leadership they have. As early as now, my friends and I have organized this group to convince her to run,” he said.
He added that like her father, they have seen her potential to lead with her strong conviction and political will who is not easily swayed by others.
“Here in Matag-ob, we see that there are a lot of things that need to be developed. We don’t want people to be divided just because of politics so we are uniting for development,” he said.
As to her possible running mate, Tacoy said they do not have a specific choice on who to support for vice-president as long as Sara runs for the top post in the country.
