Honest Mandaluyong cops lauded for returning cash to Grab rider


Netizens lauded policemen manning a border control point in Mandaluyong City for returning money from Grab delivery rider.

The policemen even went to the extent of pursuing Grab delivery rider Harvey de Guzman Jr to return the P3,020 cash that he accidentally dropped during the conduct of regular inspection at the checkpoint at the corner of Aglipay and Leyva Streets on Saturday.

Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), commended the personnel from the Mandaluyong City Police Station’s Sub-station 8 for the good deed.

"This only shows that there are a lot of policemen who are honest and have genuine concerns to the people, especially in this time of pandemic," said Eleazar.

Based on the report, De Guzman accidentally dropped the cash while showing the policemen proof that he is an Authorized Person Outside Residence (APOR) and therefore, allowed to cross borders.

Metro Manila is currently under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and part of the strict measures are the setting up of border control points not only on main entry points of the National Capital Region but also at the boundaries of each Local Government Units of the metropolis.

"Concerned that the rider needed that money, especially now that Metro Manila is under Enhanced Community Quarantine, the police officers and another rider pursued De Guzman to return the cash," the PNP statement read.

"Fortunately the policemen caught up with the delivery rider and were able to return the cash to a very happy and thankful De Guzman," it added.
