Pregnant woman killed, 3 others hurt in Negros road mishap


BACOLOD CITY – A pregnant woman, who was about to get married, died while three others, including her live-in partner, were injured after they figured in a motorcycle road accident in Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City, Negros Occidental last Friday.

Police identified the fatality as motorcycle driver Aizel Legaspi, 21, a native of Sagay City, who is presently residing in Barangay Guinhalaran.

Wounded were Legaspi’s partner Mark Olvido, 23, of Sagay City, presently residing in Barangay Guinhalaran; and John Carl Saldo, 21, and his companion Enrique Trujuillo, 20, both residents of Barangay 5.

Police Corporal Julen Jay Apitong, traffic investigator of the Silay City Police Station, said the couple was on their way home when their motorcycle allegedly overlapped on the innermost lane while executing a left turn.

An alleged speeding motorcycle driven by Saldo, was approaching Silay City from Talisay City, on their way home, when it reportedly hit the couple’s motorcycle, causing all four of them to be thrown off, Apitong said.

Apitong said that Legaspi succumbed to head injuries at a hospital, while the three others sustained injuries and are confined at a hospital here. He said the couple was not wearing helmets when the accident happened.

Apitong said they are still investigating who was at fault in the accident, adding that both parties have yet to meet as they are still attending to the parties involved.
