Malaysia committed to drive success in the 2nd ASEAN online sale day

Malaysia once again is joining other nine ASEAN Member States in the second edition of ASEAN Online Sale Day (AOSD) 2021 which will be held for three days starting from 8 August 2021 to 10 August 2021.

The AOSD which is one of the flagship initiatives under the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on e-Commerce aims to celebrate ASEAN Day – which is held on 8 August annually, and showcase regional e-commerce market potential. Through the AOSD, ASEAN Member States will collectively conduct an online shopping event through a dedicated portal in which each Member States will feature their participating businesses on a ‘country pavilion’ to consumers from across ASEAN Member States and beyond.

Started in 2020, the first AOSD 2020 was acknowledged in the ASEAN Economic Ministers meeting and during the ASEAN Summit 2020 for being a great starting point to further enhance ASEAN-to-ASEAN cross border marketability of ASEAN’s goods and services offered online. During the AOSD 2020, Malaysian businesses joining the campaign saw a number of 608,696 transactions completed involving the sales and promotion of 46,127,027 products from various categories such as household products, fashion and accessories, and F&B which generatedUS$24.04 millionin sales turnovers for the one-day event.

Malaysia’s participation in the AOSD 2021 is part of MATRADE’scontinuous effort to position Malaysian companiesin global e-commerce marketplaces and reap new business opportunities brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to SitiAzlina- MATRADE Trade Commissioner in Manila, “AOSD 2021 is an important regional engagement to continuously spur trade between ASEAN member countries. MATRADE Manila is targeting not only the B2C segments but also the increasing B2B cross border e-commerce. Among Malaysian B2B e-marketplaces that will be featured in the AOSD Malaysia Pavilion include Buy Malaysia, Minebizs, PukalShop.com, Jiffy2U, Salam Souk and many more”.

SitiAzlina further commented that this initiative is timely in revitalising demands for goods and services during pandemic. “We hope through B2B platform we can facilitate more sourcing initiatives for Malaysia’s products and services among businesses. As Philippine consumers’ sentiment has improved in Q2 this year compared to Q1, we are confident that AOSD 2021 will bring in more transactions regionally”.

MATRADE Manila office is inviting Philippines companies who are interested to source Malaysian products to be in contact with their office. “We will be organizing B2B throughout the month of August for interested parties and help them identify and get connected with Malaysian suppliers who are already on-board e-commerce”, added SitiAzlina.
