Eleazar orders probe on possible sabotage of gov't vaccination

Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has ordered an investigation into the alleged sabotage that caused hundreds of people to flock in various vaccination sites on Thursday, August 5.

“We are already looking into this and part of it is to trace the identity of the source of disinformation on vaccination being circulated on social media and text messages,” said Eleazar.

He was referring to the disinformation drive claiming that unvaccinated people will not be allowed to go out during the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and would also be barred from receiving the national government's cash assistance.

The Chief PNP reiterated that there is no order to prevent unvaccinated people from going out of their home.

He added that no less than Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Eduardo Año made the assurance that qualified beneficiaries of the cash assistance from the national government in the Metro Manila will be given the ‘ayuda’, regardless if they are vaccinated or not.

"I would like to remind the public not to believe everything that they would see in social media or things that are said to them. They could always ask the Local Government Units and other agencies," said Eleazar.

"They could also monitor the mainstream media like television and radio news reports. There are also news reports available for free in the social media," he added.
