PLDT ends PVL campaign with quick work of Cignal


The PLDT Power Hitters ended their 2021 PVL Open Conference campaign on a high note after sweeping the Cignal HD Spikers, 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 at the PCV Socio-Civic & Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte Friday night, Aug. 6.

Isa Molde led PLDT with 16 points on top of 12 kills, Christine Joy Soyud fired 10 attacks for 12 points, and Jorelle Singh chipped in 11 markers.

Rhea Dimaculangan also tossed 27 excellent sets with four points.

Chin Basas and Yeye Gabarda joined forces to put PLDT at match point, 24-19, before Aiko Urdas capped Friday's tripleheader with a service ace for the win.

“Siyempre masaya talaga ako kasi nanalo kami tapos puro straight sets pa. Ang tagal nag-click nung mga bata e dito na sa dulo hindi sa bandang unahan,” said PLDT coach Roger Gorayeb.

“‘Yong mga malalakas na nakakalaban namin nakaka-four sets four sets kami, nadidikitan e. Sana lang kung mahaba-haba or nauna itong mga huling kalaban namin mas maganda siguro.”

May Luna topscored for Cignal with seven points while Janine Marciano and Roselyn Doria added six points apiece.

PLDT finished with a 3-6 standing while Cignal, tied with the Perlas Spikers, fell to a 1-7 record and will battle the Black Mamba Army for its last match.
