Laguna, and the cities of Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro will now join Metro Manila as enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) areas until August 15, even as it was projected that the two-week lockdown in the metro and other parts of the country will cost the economy P405 billion in losses.

With the ECQ in-place, expect tight border checkpoints, more monitoring at vaccination and “ayuda” distribution centers, and keen watch on hospital utilization in the next 14 days as the country tries to stave off the spread of the Delta coronavirus disease (COVID-19) variant.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) has released the calendar of activities for schoolyear 2021-2022.

These are the major stories this Friday morning, August 6, 2021.

MB Daily News Update also widens its scope by now including the latest stories from our Metro and Provincial Sections.
