US-based swimmer Jarod Hatch set a new national record during his campaign in the Speedo Summer Championships Thursday, Aug. 5 in Irvine, California.

The 22-year-old Hatch, who studies at the University of California, clocked 53.06 seconds in the 100-meter butterfly to finish third behind winner Trenton Julian and second-placer Justina Kozan.

He erased the previous mark of 53.91 seconds which he set during the Philips 66 National Championships in Stanford, California in Aug. 2019, according to the Philippine Swimming Inc. which announced the new record on its social media accounts.

Hatch actually holds two national records, the other set during the 4×100-meter freestyle event of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

He shares the mark of 3:22:32 with Tokyo Olympian Luke Gebbie, Maurice Ilustre and Jean-Pierre Khouzam during the country’s SEAG hosting in Capas, Tarlac.
