In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Aug. 3, UB congratulated Petecio for the historic feat.

"Another historic win by a Filipina! Nesthy Petecio, a University of Baguio alum and athlete, takes home silver today, while Japan's Irie Sana wins gold in the Women's Featherweight Final of the #Tokyo2020 Olympics. Petecio's silver is another first in boxing for 25 years, and the first for a Filipina!" UB wrote.

"Maraming salamat sa paglaban, Nesthy! (Thank you so much for fighting, Nesthy!) Your University of Baguio family and the Filipino nation are very proud of you! Thank you for the Philippines' second medal! We look forward to your next bouts and journey! We look forward to having you back home!"

On Tuesday, Petecio yielded to hometown bet Sena Irie to settle for the silver medal in the women's featherweight (54-57kg) division of the Tokyo Olympics.

Petecio became the third boxer to win an Olympic silver medal after Anthony Villanueva (men's feather) at the 1964 Tokyo and Onyok Velasco (men's light fly) at the 1996 Atlanta.
