42 new cases of COVID-19 variants emerge in W. Visayas

ILOILO CITY – Western Visayas region has 42 new cases of three different COVID-19 variants, which are deemed to be more contagious.

The regional office of the Department of Health (DOH Region 6) confirmed the new cases after the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) released the results of specimen samples.

DOH Region 6 Director Adriano Suba-an said 23 cases of Beta variant, 15 cases of Alpha variant, and four cases of Theta variant were recorded in the latest findings of PGC.

Of the 23 cases of Beta variant, a total of 16 were recorded in Iloilo province. There were also two cases each in Iloilo City and Capiz province while one case each in the provinces of Aklan, Antique and Negros Occidental.

Of the 15 cases of Alpha variant, seven cases were from Antique province while four cases were found in Iloilo City. There were also two cases in Iloilo province and one case each in Capiz and Negros Occidental provinces respectively.

For Theta variant, one case each was detected in Iloilo City, Iloilo province, Bacolod City, and Guimaras province.

Previously, there were also six confirmed cases of the Delta variant in Western Visayas.
