The University of Santo Tomas (UST) has moved the opening of classes to Aug. 12 in light of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) declaration for Metro Manila due to the rising coronavirus cases (COVID-19) in the region.

The opening of classes was originally scheduled to begin on Aug. 6.

“With the Enhanced Community Quarantine starting on August 6, 2021, the University of Santo Tomas will move the First Day of Regular Classes to August 12, 2021 (Thursday), to allow our stakeholders additional time to adjust to the new restrictions,” UST announced on its official Facebook page.

However, it added that the opening ceremonies on Monday, Aug. 2, will push through.

Metro Manila will be placed under the strictest lockdown from Aug. 6 to 20 due to the threat of the more contagious Delta variant.
