Lacson: Implement ECQ in Metro Manila immediately to quell surge in COVID-19 infections

Senator Panfilo Lacson on Monday, August 2, said health authorities might have to reconsider and advance the schedule of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) lockdowns in high-risk areas instead of waiting for one week to fully impose the same.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) had decided to impose the lockdown in Metro Manila from August 6 to 20.

Lacson, chairman of the Senate National Defense and Security committee, stressed that science-based data could not be substituted by any other basis in the decision-making process of Philippine health authorities.

‘’What is evident is the undeniable fact that the COVID-19 Delta variant is now present in several areas of the country,’’ he pointed out.

Lacson said the infection rate involving COVID-19 Delta variant could be faster than we could imagine.

‘’Anyway, the PNP has already been deployed to implement preemptive measures to limit the movements of people here in Metro Manila and the adjoining regions,’’ he added.
