Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over some parts of Luzon due to the prevalence of the southwest monsoon, locally called "habagat," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday morning, Aug. 2.
PAGASA said these weather conditions will be experienced over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Zambales, and Bataan in the next 24 hours.
It warned of possible flash floods or landslides in these areas during moderate to at times heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
The public is also advised to remain alert against possible flash floods or landslides in these areas during severe thunderstorms.
Weather specialist Meno Mendoza said PAGASA monitored a low pressure area at 825 kilometers (km) north-northeast of extreme northern Luzon or inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Monday morning.
Mendoza said the weather disturbance has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression.
Moreover, PAGASA monitored a tropical depression at 2,195 km east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon. However, it is not expected to enter the PAR, Mendoza said.
No gale warning is in place on Monday but moderate to rough sea conditions may prevail over the coastal waters of Luzon and Visayas.
Meanwhile, slight to moderate sea conditions may prevail across the coastal waters of Mindanao.
While no gale warning is in effect, PAGASA still advised seafarers and fisherfolk to remain alert as sea conditions, especially over the western seaboard of Luzon may become rough during severe offshore thunderstorms.
