Metro mayors seek additional vaccine supply


Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said Metro Manila mayors are seeking for additional supplies of COVID-19 vaccine amid the looming threat of the Delta variant.

Olivarez, who is also the chairman of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), said all the Metro Manila mayors were seeking for additional supplies of vaccines especially now that the new enhanced community quarantine will be imposed again in the National Capital Region- Plus starting August 6 to 20.

He said that with the deployment of additional vaccines, the Metro Manila mayors can conduct a house-to-house vaccination to senior citizens and to those with comorbidities.

The mayor added that with the threat of the new COVID-19 Delta variant it is very important that all the senior citizens gets inoculated as they are more prone to the virus.

Olivarez said the house-to-house vaccination will be made and will be scheduled by barangays to protect the community.

The mayor said the move is also a measure to prevent the spread of the virus in the community.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire also agreed on Saturday to the plan of the MMC to conduct house-to-house vaccination to lessen the crowd in vaccination centers.
