The Petro Gazz Angels downed the Perlas Spikers, 25-17, 25-18, 25-16, to continue their winning ways in the 2021 PVL Open Conference in the 2021 PVL Open Conference at the PCV Socio-Civic & Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte Friday, July 30.
Tied 8-all in the third set, Petro Gazz uncorked a 9-1 run capped by Myla Pablo’s block for a 17-9 lead and never looked back.
But it was Gretchel Soltones who set the momentum for the Angels, scoring three of her five service aces in that momentous run.
“Maganda kahit papaano nakakakuha ng momentum na tuloy tuloy. But then again, yung gusto naming makita na galaw namin hindi pa namin nakukuha talaga,” said Petro Gazz coach Arnold Laniog.
“Kailangan pa namin trabahuin talaga. Everytime na nananalo, maganda ‘yong result but the game itself parang kailangan pa naming manalo para pagdating doon sa mga future games namin na makatapat namin yung top teams mas prepared kami.”
Soltones led the Angels with 17 points, 11 coming from kills, and a block while Ria Meneses fired 15 points and scored 10 of the team’s 13 block points.
Pablo added nine markers with three service aces while Ces Molina chipped in six kills and a block to haul eight points.
Laniog also lauded the team for the strong showing at net defense, baring that it was all part of the game plan.
“Sobrang laking bagay yun lalo na kung ma-push talaga namin ‘yong opponent na hindi makapasa sa first ball. So ‘yon talaga pinapa-establish namin nang maayos ‘yong block namin.”
Sue Roces paced Perlas with seven points, all from kills, while Roma Joy Doromal and Jho Maraguinot contributed six and five points, respectively.
Petro Gazz gained its third straight win for a 4-1 record since losing to top-seeded team Creamline Cool Smashers, who will defend its unbeaten slate against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, while Perlas fell to a 1-3 card.
