More than 8K new COVID-19 cases detected by DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) once again reported more than 8,000 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) nationwide for two straight days.

On Saturday, July 31, the DOH reported 8,147 new cases, bringing the total COVID-19 infections in the country to 1,588,965.

The DOH has not provided yet the list of areas with the most number of new cases.

However, based on its COVID-19 situationer released on Friday, July 30, the top five regions with the most number of new infections include the National Capital Region (NCR), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas,Rizal, Quezon), Central Luzon, Central Visayas, and Western Visayas.

COVID-19 death toll in the country also increased to 27,889 after the DOH reported 167 new fatalities, including the 102 cases that were previously reported as recoveries but were found as deaths after final validation.

Meanwhile, 9,117 cases were tagged as recovered, bringing the total number of survivors to 1,500,189.

The deaths and recoveries left the Philippines with 60,887 active cases, which is 3.8 percent of the overall case count.

Of the active cases, 93.8 percent were mild, 1.3 percent were asymptomatic, 2.1 percent were severe, 1.3 percent were in critical condition, and 1.52 percent were in moderate condition.
