Five vacant associate justice posts at the Court of Appeals (CA) have been opened for online applications or recommendations by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).

Also opened for applications or recommendations is the post of Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Paul Elmer M. Clemente whose term of office will end on Nov. 6, 2021.

One of the vacant posts in the CA is the post left by Associate Justice Priscilla J. Baltazar Padilla who was promoted to the Supreme Court (SC) on July 16, 2020. In Nov. 2020, the SC approved her early retirement due to physical disability.

The other CA vacant posts are those left by Associate Justice Stephen C Cruz who retired on Aug. 3, 2020; Associate Justice Celia C. Librea Leagogo who retired on Dec. 15, 2020; Associate Justice Ricardo De Rivera Rosario who was promoted to the SC on Oct. 8, 2020; and Associate Justice Remedios Salazar Fernando who was promoted as CA presiding justice on Nov. 4, 2020.

The JBC – the constitutional office that accepts, screens, and nominates appointments to the judiciary – said the online applications for the vacant posts should be submitted not later than Sept. 14, 2021.
