Olivarez said a family of eight in the community yielded six positive cases of COVID-19 of a still unknown variant. Their test results have been submitted for genome sequencing.

He said placing the two alleys in Barangay San Dionisio was a preemptive action of the city government against the further spread of the virus.

The mayor confirmed the entry of the Delta variant into the city and said the case of the six members of the family who underwent testing conducted by the City Health Office (CHO) is considered local transmission. They have been placed in an isolation facility.

Olivarez said the CHO is already conducting contact tracing from second to third generation.

The mayor said the six individuals believed to be afflicted with the new variant of COVID-19 include three adults who were already vaccinated against the disease and one minor.

Olivarez said the city government has started distributing food packs to the families affected by the granular and calibrated lockdown.

He said a team from the City Environment and Natural Resource Office (CENRO) already conducted disinfection in Barangay San Dionisio.
