Nievarez proceeds to final ranking phase after fifth-place finish in consolation race

Rower Cris Nievarez resumed his campaign for consolation rankings on Thursday by finishing fifth in his classification group in the men’s single sculls in the Tokyo Olympics at the Sea Forest Waterway.

Nievarez clocked 7 minutes and 26.05 seconds in the semifinal C/D behind Peru’s Alvaro Torres Masias, who timed 7:02.49.

Monaco’s Quentin Antognelli came in second with 7:06.03, followed by Bermuda’s Dara Alizadeh (7:11.14) and Iraq’s Mohammed Al Khafaji (7:21.52).

Saudi Arabia’s Husein Alireza finished sixth with 7:53.99.

With his performance, Nievarez will proceed to the Final D race for 19th to 24th places on Friday.

The top three rowers in his group will proceed to the Final C race for 13th to 18th places.
