After bringing home the most coveted gold medal for the country in the Tokyo Olympics, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz gets another "gold" from a food manufacturer in Angono, Rizal.
Mommy Elma Cooks, a food manufacturing enterprise based in Angono, Rizal, has announced that it is giving a one year supply of its “Golden Bawang” products such as crunchy garlic chips, chili garlic oil, roasted peanuts with garlic chips, and 20 other golden garlic spiced food products to Diaz..
Jerico Niño Orpiada Reyes, owner of Mommy Elma Cooks, a fan and follower of Diaz, said he was greatly inspired by the feat of Diaz in the Tokyo Olympics and would like to reward her in his own small way by giving her a year's supply of their "Golden" products..
Reyes told the Manila Bulletin that he likens the achievement of the lady gold Olympian to his small food business, which at first, encountered difficulties when it started at the height of the pandemic in July, 2020, but eventually became known globally because of their perseverance and dedication.
He said he intends to reach out to Diaz to give her the 12-month supply of the signature Mommy Elma Cooks’s Golden Bawang line of products through courier or delivery service.
Reyes said that just like Diaz, it is also his dream for his food products to be known, not only in Angono, but elsewhere in the country, and even abroad.
“Hi, Champ Hidilyn! In behalf of the Art Capital of the Philippines — Angono, Rizal, we want to honor and thank you for bringing the gold to every Filipino!” Reyes said.
The young entrepreneur said his business started on July 5, 2020, through online selling of her mother’s home-cooked viands with its signature garlic chips and spices, with only P7,000 capital.
“Kagaya mo, nagsimula din kami sa wala pero patuloy na nangangarap at nagsusumikap na katulad mo, maging matagumpay isang araw sa pagpapakilala sa ibang lahi na ibang klase ang Pinoy! (Just like you, we started from nothing but we continue to dream and strive and let the world know that Filipinos are great),” Reyes said.
He recalled that before his garlic chips and food products started, his father was the one supplying garlic and onions to the public market. But with online business, orders from various parts of the country have helped Reyes’ food products go national and global.
“Time will come, Champ (Hidilyn), our golden bawang products from Angono will also become champion when it reaches various countries ( Kaya darating ang panahon Champ, magiging champion din ang mga golden bawang products namin mula sa Angono, papunta sa bawat lugar ng Pilipinas, papunta sa iba’t ibang bansa!),” Reyes added.
