Myla Pablo and Ria Meneses exploded for combined 40 points as PetroGazz turned back skidding PLDT Home Fibr, 25-12, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, Tuesday night in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the PVC Socio-Civic & Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Pablo unloaded 21 kills and posted three blocks for 24 points while Meneses had 12 spikes and four blocks to finish with 16 points for the Angels, who picked up their third win in four games.
The win tied PetroGazz with Chery Tiggo for third place behind unbeaten teams Choco Mucho and Creamline, which tote identical 4-0 marks.
PetroGazz coach Arnold Laniog credited PLDT’s resilience, which challenged them to further up their game.
“All the way, parang nothing to lose lumaban talaga sila,” Laniog said.
“Sa part namin talagang, nagkukulang lang din yung mga players ko na minsan nakakaligtaan gampanan yung roles nila. Medyo naging complacent kami nung second set.”
The Angels overpowered the struggling Power Hitters in attacks, 59-40, and blocks, 12-6, despite managing only two aces – all coming from Ivy Perez.
Grethcel Soltones also stepped up for PetroGazz with 10 points and 15 digs, even as Ces Molina also scored 10 points.
PLDT fell to its fifth straight loss in as many outings to put them on the brink of elimination despite Isa Molde and Toni Rose Basas scoring 12 and 10 points.
