Zubiri on plot to unseat Sotto: 'We are happy with his leadership'

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri on Sunday, July 25 assured that the leadership of Senate President Vicente Sotto III "is steady."

Zubiri said this after Senator Panfilo Lacson disclosed on Saturday a supposed resolution being distributed by a member in the Majority bloc, seeking Sotto's ouster in the Senate leadership.

As far as he is concerned, Zubiri said he and his group "are happy" with the way Sotto runs the affairs of the Senate. In his case, he said, he did not receive such resolution.

"No one is approaching them...We reiterated the fact that we are happy with the leadership of our good president," Zubiri said in an interview over Radio DZBB.

"Senator Sotto is good in terms of experience," he added.

He said senators who are supportive of Sotto's leadership include Joel Villanueva, Grace Poe, Sherwin Gatchalian, Sonny Angara, Nancy Binay and Richard Gordon.

"Leadership changes usually happens during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of the President, but here at the Senate, we believe Sotto's post as Senate President is steady," Zubiri reiterated.

"The last thing we need right now is political bickering," he pointed out.

On Saturday, Lacson alleged that the resolution was rounded for signatures among members of the majority bloc after they announced that they will run in the upcoming May 2022 elections.

Early this month, Lacson and Sotto have bared their plans to run for president and vice president. The two also announced their senatorial line-up for next year's polls which includes former vice president Jejomar Binay.
