PAGASA: Ipo Dam to release water Sunday noon amid continuous 'habagat' rains

(PAGASA)

Residents near the banks of Angat River and low-lying communities in Bulacan were asked to be on alert for a possible increase in water level as the Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan is scheduled to release water Sunday noon, July 25, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

As of 7 a.m., PAGASA said the dam's water level was at 100.56 meters and is expected to rise further due to heavy rainfall induced by the southwest monsoon or "habagat."

"Ipo Dam management will conduct spilling operation at 12 noon with approximate initial discharge of 38 cms (cubic meters per second)," it said in a hydrological dam situationer issued on Sunday.

Those in low-lying communities and near Angat River, particularly Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel, and Hagonoy in Bulacan, were advised to take precautionary measures and remain alert for a possible increase in water level.

PAGASA and Ipo Dam management said they will continue to monitor the hydrological condition of Ipo Dam as monsoon rains continue to affect several parts of Luzon.
