1st alarm raised after Marikina River reached 15 meters


First alarm was raised after Marikina River’s water level reached 15 meters at 12:07 a.m., Saturday (July 24), Marikina City Rescue 161 said.

Sirens rang to alert residents that the water level of the river has already reached 15 meters, telling them that they must prepare to evacuate.

Once it reaches 16 meters, second alarm will be raised telling people to evacuate.

Forced evacuation will be done by the city government should the water level of Marikina River hits 18 meters.

Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro has been spotted checking designated evacuation sites in the city.

According to a post of Marikina Rescue 161, the city government has conducted preemptive evacuation due to continuous heavy rains and the rise of the river’s water level.

Seen in the photos posted by Rescue 161 were people evacuating at the designated evacuations sites.
