Volkswagen launches the Multivan Kombi

An iconic people mover from the past makes its comeback to the Philippines as Volkswagen brings back the Multivan Kombi.

The vehicle was unveiled at an online event earlier this week. The Kombi was shown to have four configurations, of those, the Multivan or Premium Van was chosen for our market, in the top of the line, Highline trim level. It’s equipped with amenities fitting an executive mover.

Its elegant exterior is available in monotone or bi-color schemes. It’s appointed with LED daytime running lights (DRL), LED headlights and taillights, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Kombi’s passenger will be treated to luxuries like a Nappa leather interior, dual swivel second row captain seats, and electric dual sliding doors and power tailgate. There’s also a multi-function folding table for the executive who needs to get work done on the road. Three-zone climatronic airconditioning is sure to make everyone comfortable in this mobile boardroom.

Under the hood is a turbocharged four cylinder 2.0 liter diesel engine that puts out 150-Ps max power at 3,250-3,750 rpm with max torque of 340-Nm at 1,500-3,000 rpm. It’s mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission with Tiptronic function and coasting feature. It also comes with a Driver Profile Select feature with Dynamic Chassis Control, allowing you to select between Normal, Sport, Comfort, and Eco drive modes.

Modern amenities

The best part of the Multivan Kombi is how it’s caught up to modern expectations. It’s equipped with an Active Info Display for the driver. For passengers, the Discover Media entertainment system has an eight-inch screen with navigation, Android Auto and Wireless Apple CarPlay Connectivity.

It also meets modern safety demands. A comprehensive safety suite is standard, equipped with six airbags (front, side, and head curtain) plus Driver Alert, Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), and Hill Start Assist (HSA). Its ESP also has the Crosswind Assist feature which keeps the vehicle stable when driven through a strong crosswind at speeds above 80kph.

The customer’s ability to choose the color of their Kombi is a priority for Volkswagen Philippines. It’s available in four standard colors: Black Pearlescent, Reflex Silver, and the bi-colors Reflex Silver/Starlight Blue Metallic and Reflex Silver/Fontana Red.

There are also 12 unique colors available for special order: Fontana Red, Ravenna Blue, Starlight Blue, Mojave Beige, Bay Leaf Green, Copper Bronze, Indium Grey, Candy White, and the Bi-Colors Reflex Silver/Indium Grey, Mojave Beige/Black Pearl, Candy White/Bay Leaf Green, and Candy White/Copper Bronze.

Manufactured in Germany, the Volkswagen Multivan Kombi Highline is priced at P3,595,000 for the monocolor variant, while the bi-color models come in at P3,640,000 and come with free 24/7 emergency roadside assistance. There’s also the unlimited mileage, two-year warranty coverage, two-year spare parts warranty, and the 12-year no-through corrosion.

PMS is only once a year and Volkswagen dealers guarantee at least a three-month stock availability on fast-moving parts, either for general repair or for collision parts. Volkswagen Philippines boasts the Multivan Kombi costs 22% less to own compared to other luxury vans in its class.

“The premium, top of the line Volkswagen Multivan Kombi is ready to cater to the premium market consisting of executives, businessmen, and professionals who are at the peak of their careers and games. These individuals value luxurious comfort, features, and interior space — all in a classic and understated design which serves as an extension and enhancement of the owner’s hard-earned privileges and status. Used for both their business on the weekdays and leisure activities on the weekends, this German precision Multivan Kombi surely holds a special value for its owner. More than its sentimental worth associated with its predecessor, the Kombi is valued for its safety features and business-class amenities tailor-fitted to its owner,” said Felipe Estrella, President, Volkswagen Philippines.
