ILOILO CITY – Officials have confirmed that the Alpha, Beta, and Delta variants of COVID-19 have been recorded in Iloilo and Guimaras.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo and Mayor Eugene Reyes of Buenavista, Guimaras separately confirmed the presence of these COVID-19 variants.

Defensor disclosed in a press conference Thursday, July 22, that the COVID-19 cases with the Alpha and Delta variants in Iloilo have already recovered.

Dr. Ma. Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office said the data is still being validated. She did not disclose the specific towns where the COVID-19 cases with the Alpha and Delta variants were recorded.

The national government has placed Iloilo, which consists of 42 towns and a component city, under ECQ status until July 31.

Reyes separately confirmed that four residents of Buenavista were infected with the COVID-19 Beta variant while another four residents with the Delta variant last May and June.

Reyes said it is unclear where the eight persons were infected with these COVID-19 variants.
