8 towns, 1 city in Ilocos Norte under indefinite MECQ

DAGUPAN CITY — Ilocos Norte governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc placed eight towns and one city in Ilocos Norte under Localized Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), which would take effect on Friday, July 23 until further notice.

Marcos Manotoc, through Executive Order No. 139-21, declares the City of Batac, and the municipalities of Bangui, Dingras, Dumalneg, Marcos, Pagudpud, Paoay, Pasuquin, and Solsona under such.

Said areas recorded an upsurge of COVID-19 cases.

According to the 10PM update of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Health Office on July 21, the province has a total of 1,624 active COVID-19 cases, with Batac City logging 185 active cases.

This, however, is only second to Laoag City with 765 active cases.

With this, Marcos Manotoc ordered the prohibition of gatherings, while indoor religious gatherings shall be limited to 25 persons and not more than 30% of the venue capacity. He also encourages the events to be held outdoors or online.

Wakes, on the other hand, shall be limited to nine days. Musiko are not allowed during wakes, but are allowed during burial or interment. The Musiko shall not be more than 10 people.

Entertainment venues wth live performers, recreational venues, indoor and outdoor sports courts for contact sports and games, and other gaming establishments except for the draws conducted by the PCSO, are also not allowed to operate.

Hotels or accommodation establishments, however, are allowed to operate if they have a valid Department of Tourism (DOT) Accreditation.

Tricycles shall only be allowed to fery only one passenger, jeepneys have a 50% maximum capacity, and taxis shall only ferry two passengers.

Marcos Manotoc also issued EO No. 140-21, issuing a 9PM to 4AM provincial curfew, and the imposition of liquor ban.

Meanwhile, the province received its first batch of procured 3,400 Astrazeneca vaccines, plus a DOH allocation of over 30,000 doses.

Marcos Manotoc reminded residents of Laoag City will be prioritized, due to the city’s high Covid-19 infection rate.
