Man in wild car chase tests positive for illegal drugs

The man who led the police in a wild car chase from Quezon City to Manila last July 13 tested positive for the use of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu," according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

On July 13, Arvin Tan tried to evade arrest by driving away from pursuing policemen. He had earlier refused to pay his bill when he checked out from a hotel in Quezon City and even demanded from the hotel's staff to pay him P20,000 instead.

Hotel personnel sought assistance from the Kamuning Police Station. During their confrontation, Tan, who was on board his BMW car, tried to flee and hit the police car and motorcycle on his way.

The suspect was charged for violation of RA 10586 (An Act Penalizing Persons Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Dangerous Drugs, and Similar Substances, and for Other Purposes), Violation of Section 11 of RA 9165 (The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), Estafa (Non-Payment), Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Damage to Government Property, Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority, and RA 9208 (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003) before the Office of the Assistant City Prosecutor (ACP).

Tan is now under the custody of the Kamuning Police Station (PS 10).
