ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan – A 32-year-old man was arrested after he stabbed the parents of his live-in partner in Barangay Macatiw here Saturday.

Police identified the suspect as Eddie Villaruz. He was arrested by barangay officials and was turned over to the responding policemen.

According to a police report, couple Rodolfo Castil, 64, and Merlita Castil, 60, were about to sleep when the suspect entered their house and stabbed them with a knife at around 12 midnight.

“Tig-isang tama ang tinamo ng mga biktima (The victims each sustained one stab wound),” police said.

The victims were rushed by neighbors to the Western Pangasinan District Hospital, but Rodolfo was declared dead on arrival. Merlina was still under medication as of Sunday.

Police Staff Sgt. William B. Bustria, investigator-on-case, said that possible motive behind the attack could be jealousy as his live-in partner, who is an overseas Filipino worker, has been giving her parents more favors than him.

“Mukhang nakantiyawan ang suspect ng kaniyang mga nakainuman na mas nabibigyan ng pansin ang magulang ng babae kaysa siya na kaniyang live-in partner (The suspect might have been hurt by the banter from his drinking buddies that his live-in partner is enjoying more favors than him from her parents),” the police investigator said.

Police said the suspect was under the influence of liquor when he attacked the victims.
