Average daily COVID-19 cases in PH down by 7% --- OCTA

(OCTA RESEARCH)

The number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country continued to decrease as it averaged 5,321 cases per day during the July 2-8 period, OCTA Research said in its report on Friday, July 9.

OCTA said the country's average is 7 percent lower than the previous week, however it remains under "moderate risk" for COVID-19 transmissions.

The reproduction number in the country, or the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual, was 0.92.

However, six cities were still tagged by OCTA as "areas of concern" as they are still under "high risk" for COVID-19.

These include Davao City, Iloilo City, General Santos City, Cagayan de Oro City, Baguio City, and Tagum City.

Davao City had a negative growth rate at (-)26 percent with an average of 241 new COVID-19 cases per day and a reproduction number of 1.

Meanwhile, Iloilo City had a slight increase in new cases with an average of 104 cases per day.

OCTA, however, noted that the intensive care unit utilization in Davao and Iloilo cities remained "very high."

Positivity rate was also observed to be "very high" at above 20 percent in General Santo City, Tagum City, and Butuan City.

OCTA said that Metro Manila, Bacolod City, Cebu City, Calamba City, and Butuan City are under "moderate risk" for COVID infections.
